Cerefolin was a brand-name prescription B-vitamin supplement with riboflavin (vitamin B2), pyridoxine (vitamin B6), methylfolate (vitamin B9), and methylcobalamin (vitamin B12). It was prescribed to treat or prevent B-vitamin deficiencies due to any number of causes, such as poor nutrition, illness, or pregnancy, among others, or to treat vitamin B deficiency anemia.
The B vitamins convert proteins, fats, and carbohydrates into energy. In particular, vitamins B6, B9, and B12 are needed to produce red blood cells, which carry needed oxygen to all the cells in the body.
