Medicare prescription drug insurance plans do not cover a Cerefolin prescription because it is no longer available in pharmacies.
Cerefolin was a brand-name drug and is no longer manufactured. However, Breckenridge Pharmaceutical still offers a generic version of Cerefolin called Metafolbic. You can search for Metafolbic on the SingleCare site or app to find more information as well as valuable savings coupons.
The active ingredients in Cerefolin, riboflavin, pyridoxine, methylfolate, and methylcobalamin, are widely available in over-the-counter vitamin B dietary supplements at a fraction of the prescription cost for Cerefolin. Search our website or app for generic over-the-counter alternatives to find the discount coupon that fits your prescription needs.

Cerefolin was a brand-name prescription B-vitamin supplement with riboflavin (vitamin B2), pyridoxine (vitamin B6), methylfolate (vitamin B9), and methylcobalamin (vitamin B12). It was prescribed to treat or prevent B-vitamin deficiencies due to any number of causes, such as poor nutrition, illness, or pregnancy, among others, or to treat vitamin B deficiency anemia.
The B vitamins convert proteins, fats, and carbohydrates into energy. In particular, vitamins B6, B9, and B12 are needed to produce red blood cells, which carry needed oxygen to all the cells in the body. Deficiencies in any of these three vitamins can cause anemia (low levels of red blood cells in the blood).
Cerefolin side effects are rare. Uncommon side effects include but are not limited to rash, discomfort, diarrhea, and depression. All the B vitamins are natural to the body, so allergies are rare. However, because vitamin B12 has cobalt in its structure, patients with cobalt allergies should not take large amounts of the vitamin or they risk an allergic reaction. Otherwise, any allergic reaction to Cerefolin would most likely have been an allergic reaction to the inactive ingredients. As with all supplements, discontinue any use of the supplement immediately if you suspect you're having an allergic reaction.
