Nevirapine is a generic prescription drug used that, when used in combination with very similar drugs, reduces the amount of HIV/AIDS virus in HIV/AIDS patients. These drugs are called antiretroviral drugs, because HIV, or human immunodeficiency virus, is a primitive virus called a retrovirus. The HIV virus attacks the immune system.
