Does Medicare cover Boostrix and how much does it cost?

Boostrix is usually covered by Medicare as these plans cover adult vaccines recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP); members typically have no out-of-pocket costs. However, if coverage is a barrier, SingleCare may be a cheaper alternative to Medicare. Compare Boostrix prescription costs to get the lowest possible prices at a pharmacy near you.

Does Medicaid cover Boostrix?

Boostrix is usually covered by Medicaid, as these plans are required to follow federal regulations that require them to provide members with routine and recommended vaccinations. While many members have no out-of-pocket costs, coverage depends on the plan, the coverage stage, and eligibility. If obtaining coverage is a barrier, SingleCare coupons can be used instead of Medicaid.

What is the generic of Boostrix?

Boostrix is a brand-name vaccine manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline. There is no generic version of Boostrix available.

What is Boostrix?

Boostrix is a vaccine that is administered by a syringe into the muscle (intramuscular). It is used to prevent diphtheria, tetanus toxoids, and pertussis infections. Boostrix is an active booster immunization given to people 10 years of age and older, and given to women during the third trimester of pregnancy. This vaccine serves as a booster to maintain protection after children complete the childhood vaccination series. Children typically receive their first booster dose around age 11 or 12, and adults later require a booster shot every 10 years. Pregnant patients receive Boostrix with each pregnancy, regardless of previous vaccination status, preferably during the third trimester.

Diphtheria is a serious illness that causes a thick layer of mucus in the nose and throat. Sometimes even the airways. It can lead to breathing problems, and eventually even paralysis, heart failure, and death. Tetanus or lockjaw is a disease that causes tightening of the body's muscles. It can eventually lead to jaw locking, leaving the patient unable to open their mouth or swallow. Pertussis, or whooping cough,h is a cough so severe that it interferes with daily activities such as eating, drinking, or breathing. It can last up to weeks and eventually lead to pneumonia, seizures, brain damage, and death. Diphtheria and pertussis can be spread from person to person very easily, while tetanus can enter the body through a cut or a wound.

Boostrix is very important to healthcare workers who maintain close contact with babies who are younger than twelve months. Boostrix works by exposing the patient to small doses of inactivated bacteria that help the immune system develop and ward off diseases. You should not receive a Boostrix vaccine if you are prone to allergic reactions from vaccines. You should let your doctor know if you have any underlying medical conditions, such as a neurological disorder that affects your brain, or if you have had a prolonged seizure or loss of consciousness. Your vaccine may be postponed if you have a history of seizures, a weak immune system, a recent bone marrow transplant, or are receiving cancer treatments.

What are the side effects of Boostrix?

The most common side effects of Boostrix include mild pain or tenderness of the application area, headache, tiredness, body aches, mild nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting. You should get emergency help right away if you experience numbness or weakness in your feet and legs, problems walking, sudden pain in your arms or shoulders, vision problems, seizures, or redness, swelling, or bleeding at the application site. This is not the full list of side effects, and others may occur. You can report unlisted side effects to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Seek medical advice from your doctor to ensure that Boostrix is safe for you to use.

Ways to save on Boostrix

Saving money on Boostrix is possible with SingleCare discount cards. While Boostrix is a vaccine, costs can still add up. A SingleCare coupon for Boostrix can lower the price to as low as $60.99 for 1, 0.5ml of 5-2.5-18.5lf-mcg/0.5 syringe at participating pharmacies. Another effective way to save more is to join SingleCare’s loyalty program.

Other vaccine saving options are available but may have eligibility requirements. These options include HSA/FSA to pay for vaccinations, patient assistance programs, and Medicare Part D Extra Help.

Is there a cheaper alternative to Boostrix?

Looking for cheaper alternatives can be an effective way to achieve cost savings. Boostrix is a specific vaccine combination (Tdap) containing immunization for diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis. There are two Tdap brand products available, Boostrix and Adacel. Discuss Tdap options with your healthcare provider to decide which treatment is best for you.
