What is Bosulif used for?

Bosulif is a prescription medication used as a treatment for adults who have a certain type of leukemia called Philadelphia chromosome-positive chronic myelogenous leukemia (Ph+ CML). It comes in capsule form and is used when other treatment options have failed. Bosulif works by interfering with the growth of cancer cells in the body. Do not use Bosulif if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Common side effects include headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and stomach pain.

How to take Bosulif

  • Swallow the tablet whole. Do not crush or break it, and do not handle broken tablets.

Tell your doctor if you are using any of the following: Aprepitant, boceprevir, bosentan, conivaptan, crizotinib, diltiazem, imatinib, modafinil, nefazodone, rifampin, St John's wort, telaprevir, verapamilBlood pressure medicineMedicine to treat an infection, including HIV infectionMedicine to treat seizures

  • Ask your doctor which stomach medicines are safe for you to take. Wait at least 2 hours before or after you take bosutinib. Do not take a proton pump inhibitor (PPI).

  • Do not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice while you are using this medicine.

  • This medicine may make you bleed, bruise, or get infections more easily. Take precautions to prevent illness and injury. Wash your hands often.

Serious Side Effects

  • Fever, chills, cough, runny or stuffy nose, sore throat, body aches

  • Change in how much or how often you urinate

  • Rapid weight gain, swelling in your hands, ankles, or feet

  • Dark urine or pale stools, loss of appetite, yellow skin or eyes

  • Severe diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain

  • Trouble breathing, chest pain

  • Unusual bleeding, bruising, or weakness

  • Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing

  • Blistering, peeling, red skin rash
