Follow the instructions on the package label if you are using this medicine without a prescription
Take only one tablet per day
Tablets should be taken with food
Swallow the tablet whole
You should take one tablet per day.
If you forget to take a tablet, it can be taken at any time on the same day.
If it’s the next day, it’s probably best to skip the missed tablet and take the next day’s tablet.
It is generally not harmful if you miss a dose of a store-bought vitamin supplement. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.
You should not use this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to any of the ingredients. If you are not sure what the ingredients are, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Tell any doctor or other healthcare provider who treats you that you are using this medicine.
You may need to stop using this medicine several days before you have surgery or medical tests.
As a general rule, you should talk to your doctor before taking multivitamins, multiminerals, or similar supplements, especially if you:
Are pregnant
Have a medical condition
Are taking prescription medications
Are taking other supplements
People with kidney disease or who are on dialysis should avoid taking multivitamins because some of the vitamins in the tablets can cause problems. Ask the doctor what vitamin and mineral supplements are safe to take.
Centrum Silver is not formulated for children. The fat-soluble vitamin and mineral doses in each tablet may not be safe for children, particularly the iron dose. One of the leading causes of fatal poisonings in very young children involves supplements containing iron, so keep these tablets out of their reach.
Do not take more than one tablet per day unless directed to by a doctor.
Multivitamins can turn urine bright yellow and stools a darker color. This is normal.
To avoid possible drug interactions, tell healthcare providers you are taking Centrum Silver.
Many possible drug interactions are possible with multivitamins because of all the ingredients. Most of the drug interactions are minor or insignificant, but that will depend on using the multivitamin as recommended. Drugs to be concerned about include:
Drugs that reduce stomach acid, such as proton pump inhibitors or H2 blockers
Blood pressure drugs called ACE inhibitors or angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs)
Potassium-sparing diuretics like spironolactone
Potassium supplements or salt substitutes
Retinoids, drugs similar to vitamin A that are used to treat acne and psoriasis
The anti-seizure drug phenytoin
Antibiotics called fluoroquinolone antibiotics or tetracyclines
Levothyroxine, a drug used to treat underactive thyroid
Drugs that treat osteoporosis called bisphosphonates
The heart rhythm drug digoxin
The Parkinson’s drug levodopa
A doctor can give you medical advice about taking vitamins along with your prescription drugs. In some cases, it may be enough to take Centrum Silver tablets several hours before or after taking one of these drugs. In other cases, you may need to switch to a supplement that does not contain one or more of the ingredients in Centrum Silver.
Serious side effects
When taken as directed, Centrum Silver should not cause serious side effects other than possible allergic reactions. Talk to a doctor if you notice any signs or symptoms of an allergic reaction, such as:
Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
When taken in excess, multivitamins like Centrum Silver could cause serious side effects due to vitamin or mineral poisoning. If you are regularly taking excessive doses of Centrum Silver, talk to a doctor if you notice any symptoms of poisoning, such as:
Chest pain, fast or uneven heartbeat
