How to take Darifenacin ER

  • Take your medicine as directed. Your dose may need to be changed several times to find what works best for you.

  • Swallow the extended-release tablet whole. Do not crush, break, or chew it. Take your medicine with a full glass of water.

  • Read and follow the patient instructions that come with this medicine. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.

  • Missed dose: Take a dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then and take a regular dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.

  • Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light.

Darifenacin ER contraindications

  • This medicine is not right for everyone. Do not use it if you had an allergic reaction to darifenacin, or if you have problems passing urine, narrow-angle glaucoma that is not controlled, or gastric retention.

Darifenacin ER warnings

  • Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.

  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have kidney disease, liver disease, myasthenia gravis, narrow-angle glaucoma, or stomach or bowel problems (such as constipation or ulcerative colitis).

  • This medicine may cause you to be more sensitive to heat, and you could develop heat exhaustion. Use caution when you exercise or are outdoors on a hot day. Drink extra water.

  • This medicine may make you dizzy or drowsy, or cause blurred vision. Do not drive or do anything else that could be dangerous if you are not alert or able to see well.

  • Your doctor will check your progress and the effects of this medicine at regular visits. Keep all appointments.

Darifenacin ER interactions

  • Some medicines can affect how darifenacin works. Tell your doctor if you are also using atropine, clarithromycin, dicyclomine, flecainide, glycopyrrolate, hyoscyamine, itraconazole, ketoconazole, nefazodone, nelfinavir, propantheline, ritonavir, scopolamine, or thioridazine. Also tell your doctor if you are using medicine for depression.

Serious Side Effects

  • Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing

  • Decrease in how much or how often you urinate, or difficult urination

  • Decreased sweating, dizziness, tiredness, nausea

Less Serious Side Effects

  • Blurred vision, headache, confusion, drowsiness

  • Constipation, stomach upset

  • Dry mouth
