What is Durolane: Uses, Warnings & Interactions

Updated May 14, 2025  •  Published Dec 30, 2020

Durolane is a brand-name gel that relieves knee pain in people with osteoarthritis. The gel contains hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring component of cartilage and joint fluid. Durolane is not a medication but a medical device. Doctors do not prescribe it and patients do not take doses. Instead, an orthopedist, doctor, or healthcare professional injects the gel into the knee joint to provide cushioning and lubrication.
