The FreeStyle reader is a continuous glucose monitoring device that is indicated for routine blood sugar testing without fingersticks in diabetic patients who are 18 years and older. The system can detect trends and track patterns that help with the detection of episodes of hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia. This, in turn, helps you and your healthcare provider make adjustments in your short and long-term therapy.
When using FreeStyle Libre, do not ignore symptoms that could indicate dangerously low or high blood glucose levels. You should check your sensor glucose readings with a blood glucose meter when the Check Blood Glucose symbol appears, when your symptoms do not match the FreeStyle Libre system readings, or when readings are suspected to be inaccurate. The FreeStyle Libre system does not have alarms unless the sensor is scanned.
You should remove your FreeStyle Libre sensor before an MRI, CT scan, X-ray, or diathermy treatment.
Do not place the FreeStyle Libre sensor on any part of your body other than the approved site. The approved site for the FreeStyle Libre sensor is the back of the arm. Consult your doctor for standard precautions to prevent the transmission of bloodborne pathogens.
The FreeStyle Libresystem is not approved for use by pregnant women, people on dialysis, or people who are critically ill.
FreeStyle Libre is not for use in patients who are dehydrated, hypotensive, in shock, or in a hyperglycemic-hyperosmolar state, with or without ketosis.
FreeStyle Libre should not be used for the screening or diagnosis of diabetes.
There are no listed side effects for FreeStyle Libre, but you should ask your doctor about all the associated risks with using the FreeStyle Libre system to ensure it is right for you.
