Lastacaft (alcaftadine ophthalmic solution) 0.25% is a prescription medicine approved for the prevention of itching associated with eye allergies. It is a member of the ophthalmic antihistamines and decongestants drug class. Antihistamines like Lastacaft reduce the effects of the natural chemical histamine in the body. With histamine production reduced, symptoms such as itchy or watery eyes are also reduced.
To reduce injury to your eye and the risk of contaminating the dropper tip of the bottle and solution, do not touch your eyelids or the areas around your eyes with the dropper tip. Keep bottle tightly closed when not in use. To ensure Lastacaft is safe for you to use, tell your doctor about any medical conditions that affect your eyes. This drug should not be used by children younger than 2 years old or if you are hypersensitive to any of the active ingredients found in Lastacaft.
Some of the side effects associated with Lastacaft include, but are not limited to, eye irritation, burning and/or stinging in the eyes after use, eye redness, and eye itching.
