Mineral Oil belongs to a group of products known as emollients. These are substances that soften and moisturize the skin and decrease itching and flaking. Dry skin is usually caused by a loss of water in the upper layer. This product works by forming an oily layer on the top of the skin which traps water in.
Mineral Oil is available in the form of a topical lotion. It may need to be shaken before use. Apply this product to affected areas of the skin as needed. Read and follow the instructions provided on the product packaging before you start using this product. If you are still uncertain about how to use this medication then talk to your doctor or pharmacist for additional information.
If you are using this product to treat diaper rash, clean the diaper area well before use and allow the area to dry before applying the product.
