What is Nuzyra?

Nuzyra is used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections. The active ingredient in this medication is omadacycline. It belongs to a class of drugs known as tetracycline antibiotics. This medication works by stopping the growth of bacteria. Nuzyra is only meant to treat bacterial infections. It will not work for viral infections such as the common cold and the flu.

This FDA-approved medication is available in the form of an oral tablet and is best taken on an empty stomach, usually once daily. Fast for at least four hours before your dose, then take your dose with a full glass of water. You may drink water after using this medication, but do not eat food or drink other liquids for at least two hours after taking this medication. You should not lie down for at least ten minutes after taking your dose.

Your doctor will recommend an appropriate dose for you based on an assessment of your current medical condition, other drugs you are currently taking, and your response to treatment. Continue using this medication until your prescription is complete, even if you no longer experience the symptoms of your condition. Bacterial infections may still linger and can return if you stop using this medication before the period advised by your doctor.
