Provayblue (methylene blue) is a brand-name prescription injection used to restore normal hemoglobin in patients with methemoglobinemia, a condition in which the iron in the red blood cells becomes oxidized and cannot efficiently transport oxygen to the cells. Provayblue is administered by a healthcare professional as an intravenous infusion. Provayblue's cost is normally $225.02 at full price. A SingleCare Provayblue coupon reduces that price to $92.35. Ask the clinic or hospital where you receive your Provayblue infusion if they will accept a SingleCare Provayblue coupon; you could pay only $92.35.

Provayblue is a brand-name prescription drug with the active ingredient methylene blue. Generic methylene blue is manufactured by Akorn and American Regent, the manufacturer of Provayblue, and sells for the same price as Provayblue. However, Provayblue is purchased by hospitals and clinics only, so they will decide which product to purchase.
Provayblue is a brand-name prescription injection administered to patients with acquired methemoglobinemia, an anemia in which the red blood cells have too much methemoglobin rather than hemoglobin. Methemoglobin does not carry oxygen like hemoglobin. It is formed when the iron in hemoglobin (ferrous iron) is oxidized (into ferric iron). The oxidized iron is unable to carry oxygen. Too much methemoglobin in the bloodstream will result in not enough oxygen getting to the body's tissues. Symptoms are gray-blue skin, weakness, and tiredness.
People can be born with methemoglobinemia or acquire it from chemical agents such as prescription drugs or nitrites.
The active ingredient in Provayblue, methylene blue, reduces the oxidized iron (ferric iron) in methemoglobin back to its oxygen-carrying form (ferrous iron).
Provayblue is administered by a healthcare professional as an infusion that will last from 5-30 minutes. The patient will be monitored throughout the infusion, including vital signs, an electrocardiogram, and methemoglobin levels. The effects of Provayblue on methemoglobin will be immediate. If methemoglobin levels are still high after the first infusion, a second will be administered an hour later.
Patients will be closely monitored during and after their injection. The most common side effects of Provayblue are temporary site reactions to the infusion. These include pain, irritation, redness, and soreness. Other common side effects of Provayblue include but are not limited to pain in the extremities, changes in taste, nausea, sweating, dizziness, feeling hot, headache, and skin discoloration.
The most severe side effects can include anaphylaxis, a dangerous drop in blood pressure, and hemolytic anemia, a condition in which blood cells die off.
Provayblue allergies are very rare. Consult a physician immediately if you show any signs of a Provayblue allergic reaction, such as itching, rash, facial swelling, dizziness, or trouble breathing.
This is not a complete list of side effects that may occur. Ask your doctor or pharmacist about possible side effects before taking this medicine.
