What is Rixubis used for?

Ixinity is a medication that contains coagulation factor IX used to manage bleeding episodes in patients 12 years and older with hemophilia b. It is also used before surgery to control and prevent bleeding. Hemophilia B prevents blood from clotting due to a deficiency of the clotting factor in the blood. Ixinity works by replacing the coagulation factor IX to temporarily control bleeding. This medication is available as an injection.

How to take Rixubis

  • Injection routeYour doctor will prescribe your dose and schedule. This medicine is given through a needle placed in a vein.

  • Injection routeA nurse or other health provider will give you this medicine.

  • Injection routeYou may be taught how to give your medicine at home. Make sure you understand all instructions before giving yourself an injection. Do not use more medicine or use it more often than your doctor tells you to.

  • Injection routeUse a new needle and syringe each time you inject your medicine.

  • Read and follow the patient instructions that come with this medicine. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.

  • Missed dose: Ask your doctor or pharmacist for instructions if you need to use this medicine on a schedule.

  • Each brand of medicine has different instructions for how to store it. Follow the directions for your brand. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions. Do not use this medicine after the expiration date.

  • You may store the BeneFIX® kit in the refrigerator or at room temperature. Do not freeze. After reconstitution, you may store the solution at room temperature for up to 3 hours. Throw away any unused solution after 3 hours.

  • Injection routeThrow away used needles in a hard, closed container that the needles cannot poke through. Keep this container away from children and pets.

What to do if you miss a dose of Rixubis

Rixubis contraindications

  • This medicine is not right for everyone. You should not receive it if you had an allergic reaction to coagulation factor (recombinant) or hamster proteins, or if you have disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC).

Rixubis warnings

  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have kidney disease or liver disease.

  • This medicine may cause the following problems:Increased risk for blood clotsKidney problems

  • Tell your doctor if this medicine does not prevent or stop bleeding as expected.

  • Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.

  • Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.

  • Pain in your lower leg (calf)

  • Sudden or severe headache, problems with vision, speech, or walking

  • Unexplained bleeding

Serious Side Effects

  • Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing

  • Change in how much or how often you urinate, cloudy or bloody urine

  • Chest pain, trouble breathing, coughing up blood

  • Fever. cough

  • Lightheadedness, dizziness, fainting

  • Numbness or weakness in your arm or leg, or on one side of your body

  • Pain in your lower leg (calf)

  • Sudden or severe headache, problems with vision, speech, or walking

  • Unexplained bleeding

Less Serious Side Effects

  • Nausea

  • Pain, itching, burning, redness, swelling, or a lump under your skin where the needle is placed
