How to take Toviaz

  • Take your medicine as directed. Your dose may need to be changed several times to find what works best for you.

  • Swallow this medicine whole with a glass of water.

  • Swallow the extended-release tablet whole. Do not crush, break, or chew it.

  • Read and follow the patient instructions that come with this medicine. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.

  • Missed dose: If you miss a dose of this medicine, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at your usual time. Do not take 2 doses at the same day.

  • Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light.

What to do if you miss a dose of Toviaz

Toviaz contraindications

  • This medicine is not right for everyone. Do not use it if you had an allergic reaction to fesoterodine or tolterodine tartrate, or if you have problems passing urine, uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma, or problems with food emptying from your stomach (gastric retention).

Toviaz warnings

  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have kidney disease, liver disease, bladder blockage, myasthenia gravis (severe muscle weakness), narrow-angle glaucoma, or stomach or bowel problems (including severe constipation).

  • This medicine may cause angioedema (severe swelling) of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.

  • This medicine may make you dizzy, drowsy, or cause blurred vision. Do not drive or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how this medicine affects you.

  • This medicine may make you sweat less, causing your body temperature to increase. Use extra care not to become overheated during exercise or hot weather while you are taking this medicine, since overheating may result in heat stroke.

  • Your doctor will check your progress and the effects of this medicine at regular visits. Keep all appointments.

  • Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.

  • Unusual tiredness or weakness.

Toviaz interactions

  • Some medicines can affect how fesoterodine works. Tell your doctor if you are using atropine, clarithromycin, itraconazole, ketoconazole, or scopolamine.

  • Do not drink alcohol while you are using this medicine.

  • This medicine may make you dizzy, drowsy, or cause blurred vision. Avoid driving, using machines, or doing anything else that could be dangerous if you are not alert or not able to see well.

  • This medicine may make you sweat less, causing your body temperature to increase. Use extra care not to become overheated during exercise or hot weather while you are taking this medicine, since overheating may result in heat stroke.

  • Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing

  • Swelling in your hands, ankles, or feet.
