What is Zepatier used for?

Zepatier is used to treat patients with chronic hepatitis C, a viral infection of the liver. It works by reducing the amount of hepatitis C virus in your body. This helps your immune system fight the infection and may help your liver recover.

How to take Zepatier

  • Your doctor will tell you how much medicine to use. Do not use more than directed.

  • Make sure you understand how to use all of the medicines your doctor prescribed.

  • Take all of the medicine in your prescription to clear up your infection, even if you feel better after the first few doses.

  • Read and follow the patient instructions that come with this medicine. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.

  • Missed dose: Take a dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then and take a regular dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.

  • Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light. Keep the tablets in the original container until you are ready to use them.

What to do if you miss a dose of Zepatier

Zepatier contraindications

  • This medicine is not right for everyone. Do not use it if you had an allergic reaction to elbasvir or grazoprevir.

Zepatier warnings

  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have liver disease (including hepatitis B).

  • Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.

  • Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.

Zepatier interactions

  • Do not use this medicine together with carbamazepine, cyclosporine, phenytoin, rifampin, St John's wort, or medicine to treat HIV infection (including atazanavir, darunavir, efavirenz, lopinavir, saquinavir, tipranavir).

  • Some medicines can affect how elbasvir/grazoprevir works. Tell your doctor if you are using any of the following:Bosentan, elvitegravir/cobicistat/emtricitabine/tenofovir, etravirine, ketoconazole, modafinil, nafcillin, or tacrolimusCancer medicineMedicine to lower cholesterol (including atorvastatin, fluvastatin, lovastatin, rosuvastatin, simvastatin)Steroid medicine

  • Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.

Zepatier side effects

Serious Side Effects

  • Dark urine or pale stools, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, stomach pain, yellow skin or eyes

  • Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing

Less Serious Side Effects

  • Headache

  • Tiredness
