What is Zerbaxa used for?

Zerbaxa is a cephalosporin antibiotic and it works by stopping the growth of bacteria. It is a combination medicine indicated for the treatment of urinary tract infections (UTI) caused by Gram-negative microorganisms including escherichia coli, klebsiella pneumoniae, proteus mirabilis, and pseudomonas aeruginosa.

What to do if you miss a dose of Zerbaxa

Zerbaxa contraindications - Who shouldn't take Zerbaxa?

  • This medicine is not right for everyone. You should not receive it if you had an allergic reaction to ceftolozane, tazobactam, or piperacillin, or similar medicines.

Zerbaxa warnings

  • Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.

  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have kidney disease or diarrhea.

  • This medicine can cause diarrhea. Call your doctor if the diarrhea becomes severe, does not stop, or is bloody. Do not take any medicine to stop diarrhea until you have talked to your doctor. Diarrhea can occur 2 months or more after you stop taking this medicine. It may occur 2 months or more after you stop receiving this medicine.

  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have kidney disease or are allergic to any other drugs..

  • This medicine can cause diarrhea. Call your doctor if the diarrhea becomes severe, does not stop, or is bloody. Do not take any medicine to stop diarrhea until you have talked to your doctor. Diarrhea can occur 2 months or more after you stop taking this medicine. It may occur 2 months or more after you stop using this medicine.

  • Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve or if they get worse.

Serious Side Effects

  • Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing

  • Bloody or watery diarrhea, stomach cramps, fever

Less Serious Side Effects

  • Mild diarrhea, nausea

  • Headache

  • Pain, itching, burning, swelling, or a lump under your skin where the needle is placed
