Alymsys is a monoclonal antibody (a lab-made protein that targets specific cells) and biologic (a medicine made from living cells). Biologics are not referred to as brand and generic forms. Rather, the “brand name,” also known as the reference product, is called Avastin. Alymsys is known as a biosimilar to Avastin, which means it is highly similar to Avastin in terms of safety and efficacy.
Alymsys is classified in a group of drugs called vascular endothelial growth factor inhibitors, or the VEGFR inhibitors drug class. It is made by Amneal Pharmaceuticals and is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat patients with:

Certain types of non-squamous, non-small cell lung cancer, in combination with other treatments
Recurrent glioblastoma
Metastatic renal cell cancer in combination with interferon alfa

Alymsys is administered in a healthcare setting by intravenous infusion (infusion into a vein).
Before you take Alymsys, tell your healthcare provider about all of your medical conditions and medical history, including if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Alymsys may cause fetal toxicity or harm to a fetus. You should use effective birth control while you are receiving treatment with Alymsys and for at least 6 months after the last dose. You can consult your healthcare provider for medical advice on the best type of birth control for you. You should not breastfeed while you are receiving treatment with Alymsys and for at least 6 months after the last dose.
Also, tell your healthcare provider about all your medications, including prescription drugs, OTC medicines, vitamins, and supplements.
Let all of your healthcare providers know you take Alymsys. If you are having elective surgery, you will have to pause your treatment for at least 28 days before surgery. Certain types of major surgery will require pausing Alymsys for 28 days after the surgery.

Nosebleed
Headache
Hypertension (high blood pressure)
Rhinitis (runny or stuffy nose)
Protein in the urine
Altered taste
Dry skin
Bleeding (hemorrhage)
Back pain
Problems with the tear ducts
Serious skin reactions known as exfoliative dermatitis (symptoms may include fever, sore throat, burning eyes, skin pain, rash, blistering/peeling skin, and require emergency medical help)
Serious adverse reactions require urgent or emergency medical attention and may include, but are not limited to:

Infusion reactions
Kidney problems (also known as renal injury)
