What is Anagrelide?

Anagrelide is an FDA-approved prescription medication used to treat a blood disorder known as thrombocythemia, which is caused by your bone marrow making too many platelets. Blood platelets are a type of blood cells that the body used to form blood clots. Excess blood clots can cause bleeding and circulation problems. This medication reduces the number of platelets in the bloodstream by blocking their production.

Anagrelide is available in the form of an oral tablet that can be taken with or without food, usually two to four times daily. Your doctor will recommend an appropriate dose for you based on an assessment of your current medical condition, other drugs you are currently taking, and your response to treatment. Your doctor may need to adjust your dose, usually, once a week, to find the best dose that keeps your blood count closer to normal.
