Generic alternatives to Arginaid are not available at this time, but L-arginine can be found in generic supplements sold as tablets or powder.
What is Arginaid?
Arginaid is a non-prescription nutrition drink that provides the amino acid, L-arginine, along with vitamins C and E. Arginaid is prescribed or advised to patients who are in the process of wound- or burn-healing.
Arginine helps to synthesize nitric oxide, a free radical the body produces to respond to a wound or burn. Nitric oxide is a vasodilator, that is, it causes blood vessels to widen and blood flow to increase. The increase in blood flow to the burn helps to speed up the formation of collagen the body uses to repair the wound. Both vitamin C and vitamin E have also been shown to speed up the wound repair process, aid collagen formation and help improve the cosmetic outcome of wound-healing.
Arginaid comes in prepackaged single-serve containers which are mixed with water. Each packet contains 4.5 grams of L-arginine.
What are the side effects of Arginaid?
Taken as directed, side effects will be minimal and rarely experienced. Taking too much L-arginine can result in abdominal pain, diarrhea, gout, and dangerously low blood pressure. Allergies are a small risk. Discontinue use of Arginaid|| if you notice an allergic reaction such as itching, rash, hives, or trouble breathing.
