What is Celacyn?

Celacyn is a hypochlorous acid (HOCl) based prescription lotion used to protect and moisturize scar wounds. This medication helps promote lighter, flatter, less prominent scarring, and may also reduce dry skin. Celacyn Prescription Scar Management gel is generally intended for the management of old and new keloid and hypertrophic scars that were caused by burns, general surgical procedures, or trauma wounds. Celacyn scar gel should only be used under the supervision of a healthcare practitioner.

Celacyn comes in the form of a skin barrier emollient gel meant for external use only. Clean and dry the affected area before using Celacyn. Apply it in a thin layer over the scarred area and gently massage it into the skin. This can usually be done around three times per day or as recommended by your healthcare provider.

Avoid getting this medication in your eyes, mouth, nose, or ears. If the topical gel comes in contact with your eyes, then flush with water and consult with your doctor as soon as possible. Do not apply this medication to open wounds, cuts, or bruises. If you are uncertain about how to use this topical emollient, seek guidance from your doctor or pharmacist.

What are the side effects of Celacyn?

This medication can usually be used without causing any unwanted side effects. If you experience any side effects when using this medication, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. Serious allergic reactions to this medication are rare. However, you should seek immediate medical attention if you experience symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, such as itching, rash, swelling in your face or throat, severe dizziness, tightness in your chest, or trouble breathing.

Ask your doctor or healthcare provider for full medical advice on the risks and benefits involved with using Celacyn as this is not a complete list of side effects.
