What is Clobetasol?
Clobetasol is a generic prescription medicine used to treat a variety of skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, allergies, and rash. It helps to reduce itching, swelling, and redness that can occur in these kinds of conditions. Clobetasol is a type of topical corticosteroid that works by activating natural substances in your skin that reduce swelling.
Talk to your doctor for specific guidance in using this medication. Your doctor may assess your medical condition and other drugs you are currently using before recommending Clobetasol. This is usually done to determine whether Clobetasol may react negatively to other medications or medical conditions that you may have.
What doses of Clobetasol are available?
Clobetasol comes in the form of a 0.05% topical foam meant to be used on your skin only. Do not apply this medication to your groin, face, or underarms unless directed to do so by your doctor.
Clobetasol is not indicated for rosacea, perioral dermatitis, or acne. Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if you have a skin infection, or if you have any underlying health conditions including blood sugar problems (like hyperglycemia), glaucoma, or intracranial hypertension.
This medication is usually applied as a thin film on the affected area, usually two times a day. Wash and dry the affected area and your hands before you begin the application of this drug. Do not cover, wrap, or bandage the treated area unless advised to do so by your doctor. Do not use Clobetasol for longer than prescribed by your doctor.
Clobetasol also comes in the forms of a clobetasol cream, spray, solution, shampoo, gel, and ointment. Clobetasol is recommended for short-term use only. Depending on the form of Clobetasol that you’ve been prescribed, you may use Clobetasol for two to four consecutive weeks.

In some rare cases, topical steroids may be absorbed into the bloodstream, leading to excess levels of corticosteroid in the body, and cause serious side effects. This is most likely to occur in children and adults who use this medication excessively or over a long period of time. The safety of Clobetasol has not been established in pediatric patients 12 years of age or younger. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience symptoms of Cushing’s syndrome such as extreme tiredness, weight-loss, headaches, swelling of the ankles or feet, or vision problems.
