  • Treats many skin disorders. Also relieves pain, itching, and swelling caused by skin diseases. This medicine is a corticosteroid.

What is Cutivate used for?

Fluticasone propionate belongs to a class of medications called corticosteroids (or “steroids”). Fluticasone propionate is used to treat asthma, allergies, nasal polyps, and some autoimmune intestinal diseases. Fluticasone propionate is a generic medication also available under various brand names such as Flonase. In the treatment of allergies and asthma, fluticasone propionate use is very common.

How to take Cutivate

  • Your doctor will tell you how much medicine to use. Do not use more than directed.

  • Topical application routeUse this medicine only on your skin. Rinse it off right away if it gets on a cut or scrape. Do not get the medicine in your eyes, nose, or mouth.

  • Do not use this medicine on the face, groin, or underarms unless your doctor says it is okay. Cutivate® cream or lotion should not be used in the diaper area unless directed by your doctor.

  • Wash your hands before and after you apply the medicine, unless you are treating the skin on your hands.

  • Topical application routeApply a thin layer of the medicine to the affected area. Rub it in gently.

  • Topical application routeDo not cover the treated area with a bandage unless directed by your doctor.

  • Read and follow the patient instructions that come with this medicine. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.

  • Missed dose: Topical application routeApply a dose as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then and apply a regular dose. Do not apply extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.

  • Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light.

  • Topical application routeDo not cover the treated area with a bandage unless directed by your doctor.

  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have diabetes, a skin infection, or Cushing syndrome. If you are using Cutivate® cream or lotion, tell your doctor if you are allergic to formaldehyde (formalin).

  • This medicine may cause adrenal gland problems. This is more likely if you use the medicine for a long time or over a large area.

  • Topical application routeDo not use this medicine to treat a skin problem your doctor has not examined.

  • Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve or if they get worse.

  • Your doctor will check your progress and the effects of this medicine at regular visits. Keep all appointments.

  • This medicine is not for long-term use.

  • Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.

Serious Side Effects

  • Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing

  • Color changes on the skin, dark freckles, easy bruising, muscle weakness, round, puffy face

  • Severe burning, pain, redness, swelling, or irritation of the treated skin areas

  • Signs of skin infection such as redness, swelling, drainage, or pus

Less Serious Side Effects

  • Acne or tiny pimples

  • Mild burning, dryness, irritation, redness, or itching

  • Thinning of the skin
