Diovan HCT is a combination drug commonly used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure). This drug consists of hydrochlorothiazide and valsartan. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic (water pill) that helps prevent your body from absorbing excessive salt, which can cause fluid retention. While Valsartan is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist that keeps blood vessels from narrowing, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow.
Diovan HCT is not recommended for you if you have an electrolyte imbalance, had a heart attack, heart failure, kidney disease or other kidney problems, liver disease, gallstones, or an allergy to penicillin. You should not use Diovan HCT if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. If you become pregnant while using Diovan HCT, stop using this drug right away.
