What is the brand name of Gavilax?

Gavilax is a branded generic non-prescription laxative with PEG-3350 as the active ingredient. The brand-name version of Gavilax is MiraLAX.

What is Gavilax?

Gavilax is a non-prescription laxative to help remedy constipation or irregularity. The active ingredient in Gavilax, polyethylene glycol 3350 (or PEG-3350) is a gentle osmotic laxative that works by drawing water from the linings of the intestines to increase the water content of the colon. The water is absorbed by stools and makes them bulkier which in turn stimulates bowel movements. The water also softens the stools and provides lubrication when they are passed.

Gavilax is taken as a powder mixed with water once per day. The cap should be filled to the line with powder (17 grams) and mixed with four to eight ounces of liquid. The effects usually take one to three days. Do not take Gavilax for longer than seven days.

What are the side effects of Gavilax?

Gavilax is generally a safe and gentle laxative when taken as directed. Common side effects of Gavilax include but are not limited to, nausea, gas, bloating, upset stomach, abdominal cramps, dizziness, diarrhea, and sweating. The most serious side effects are extreme abdominal pain, blood in the stools, or bloody diarrhea. Gavilax allergies are extremely rare. Allergic reactions include skin rashes, itching, wheezing, shortness of breath, and hives. This is not a complete list of possible side effects.
