What is Leukine?

Leukine helps your body produce white blood cells, which help your body fight against infection. Leukine is used in adults and children who are at least 2 years old. It is used to help prevent serious infections in patients with certain conditions such as leukemia, bone marrow transplant, and pre-chemotherapy blood cell collection. Leukine can also lower the risk of death from bone marrow suppression after radiation exposure. Leukine should not be used within 24 hours before receiving chemotherapy or radiation or within 24 hours after chemotherapy. Do not use Leukine if you are allergic to sargramostim, filgrastim, or yeast. Leukine may contain an ingredient that causes serious side effects or death in very young or low birthweight babies.
