What is Lonsurf?

Lonsurf is a brand-name combination prescription drug used to treat colon, rectal, or stomach cancer that has spread to other parts of the body and has not responded adequately to other drugs.

One of the active ingredients in Lonsurf, trifluridine, corrupts the genetic information in cancer cells, blocking their ability to produce new cancer cells. The other active ingredient, tipiracil, slows down the body's breakdown of trifluridine and so allows it more time to work against cancer cells.

Lonsurf is taken as a tablet twice a day with food on a 28-day cycle. Lonsurf is initially taken for five days followed by two days not taking the medication. The cycle is repeated once, followed by a two-week break.
