This medication comes in the form of a 750 mg/5 mL oral suspension that can be taken with food as directed by your doctor. It is usually recommended that this medication be taken with food so that your body can absorb as much of this medication as possible. Your doctor will prescribe an appropriate dose based on your current medical condition, other drugs you are currently taking, and your response to treatment.
This medication works best when the amount of medicine in your body is kept at a constant level. This means you should take this medication consistently to allow for maximum effectiveness. Continue using this medication until the period prescribed by your doctor is complete, even if your symptoms go away after a couple of days. If you stop using this medication too early it may cause your infection to return.
Common side effects that may result from the use of Mepron include fever, vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, headache, weakness, trouble sleeping, or stomach pain. Contact your doctor if you experience any of these effects and they get worse. A mild rash that is usually not serious may also occur while taking this medication.
Seek immediate medical attention if you begin to notice signs of any serious side effects such as depression, nausea, vomiting that does not stop, loss of appetite, stomach pain, yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes, or dark urine. Get emergency medical attention if you have symptoms of an allergic reaction such as hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling around the face, lips, tongue, or throat. Also, if you have symptoms of a severe skin reaction such as fever, red or purple rash, or blistering or peeling skin, get emergency medical help.
This is not a complete list of side effects. Consult your doctor or healthcare professional for additional information and medical advice regarding other possible side effects or drug interactions.
