What is Ofloxacin?

Ofloxacin is a quinolone antibiotic that is commonly used to treat specific kinds of bacterial infections. It is available as an oral tablet and solution. Ofloxacin ophthalmic solution can treat bacterial infections of the eye while Ofloxacin otic solution can treat outer ear infections. Ofloxacin oral tablets can be used to treat bacterial infections of the skin, prostate, lungs, and the urinary tract (bladder and kidneys). Ofloxacin can also be used to treat pelvic inflammatory disease and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), such as chlamydia or gonorrhea.

Ofloxacin should only be used for infections that cannot be treated with another safer antibiotic. It does not work for the common cold, flu, or other viral infections.

What are the side effects of Ofloxacin?

Ofloxacin may cause side effects such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and headache. Ofloxacin ophthalmic and otic solutions may cause burning, irritation, or itching around the area of administration. If you experience dizziness or drowsiness, do not drive or operate machinery. This medicine can also make you more sensitive to the sun, so it is best to avoid direct contact with the sun while using this medication. Contact your healthcare provider if you experience any side effects, or if you experience side effects that persist or worsen.

Ofloxacin may also cause severe side effects. Contact your doctor if you experience severe diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting after using this medication. If you experience stomach pain, anxiety, bleeding gums, black tarry stools, or blurred vision, you should also seek medical advice from your doctor immediately. Other serious side effects such as mood or behavioral changes, nerve damage, or low blood sugar can occur. Stop using Ofloxacin and contact your doctor immediately if you experience irritability, tingling, burning pain, agitation, confusion, paranoia, problems with memory or concentration, or thoughts of suicide.

Fluoroquinolone antibiotics, such as Ofloxacin, may cause inflammation or rupture of the tendon. Seek medical attention if you experience severe pain or stiffness in the tendons during treatment with Ofloxacin.

In rare cases, Ofloxacin may cause damage to the aorta, which can lead to dangerous bleeding or death. Contact your doctor immediately if you are experiencing constant chest pains.

Consult your healthcare professional for other possible side effects, warnings, and precautions before starting treatment with Ofloxacin.

What is the brand name of Ofloxacin?

Ofloxacin is a generic drug. Floxin and Ocuflox are brand-name alternatives. The drug manufacturer is Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, Larken Laboratories, and Nivagen Pharmaceuticals.
