What is Ovace Plus used for?

Ovace Plus is an antibiotic cream used to treat acne, dandruff and certain skin infections. It works by reducing the growth of bacteria. You should not use Ovace Plus if you are allergic to sulfacetamide sodium or sulfa drugs. Common side effects may include mild swelling, itching, or redness of treated skin.

How to take Ovace Plus

  • Your doctor will tell you how much medicine to use. Do not use more than directed.

  • Read and follow the patient instructions that come with this medicine. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.

  • Topical application routeUse this medicine only on your skin. Rinse it off right away if it gets on a cut or scrape. Do not get the medicine in your eyes, nose, or mouth.

  • To use on your head: Wash your hair with a mild shampoo, and clean your scalp well with water. Brush your hair for 2 to 3 minutes after you apply this medicine.

  • Topical application routeWash your hands with soap and water before and after you use this medicine.

  • Topical application routeApply a thin layer of the medicine to the affected area. Rub it in gently.

What to do if you miss a dose of Ovace Plus

  • Topical application routeApply a dose as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then and apply a regular dose. Do not apply extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.

  • Topical application routeAsk your pharmacist or doctor how to dispose of the medicine container and any leftover or expired medicine.

  • Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.

Ovace Plus contraindications

  • You should not use this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to sulfacetamide or to other sulfa medicines such as trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, Bactrim®, Cotrim®, or Septra®. You should not use this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to silver or sulfites. Do not use this medicine on a child under 12 years old without a doctor's approval.

Ovace Plus warnings

  • Make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or breast feeding, or if you have a fungus infection. If you have any open wounds on the area you are going to treat, ask your doctor before using this medicine.

  • Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve or if they get worse.

  • Topical application routeDo not use this medicine to treat a skin problem your doctor has not examined.

  • Joint pains.

  • Nausea or vomiting.

Ovace Plus interactions

  • Make sure your doctor knows if you are using other sulfonamides (sulfa drug) such as trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, Bactrim®, Cotrim®, or Septra®.

  • Topical application routeDo not put cosmetics or skin care products on the treated skin.

  • Topical application routeDo not use this medicine to treat a skin problem your doctor has not examined.

Serious Side Effects

  • Nausea or vomiting.

  • Joint pains.

  • Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing

  • Blistering, peeling, red skin rash.

  • Fever, or soreness in your mouth.

Less Serious Side Effects

  • Swelling in hands, ankles, or feet.

  • Rash, irritation, itching, or burning.
