What is Rapivab used for?

Rapivab is a prescription-only medication that is used to treat acute uncomplicated influenza in patients 2 years and older. Rapivab is prescribed to patients who have been ill for 2 or more days. This medication works by relieving fever, headache and rhinitis symptoms that are commonly associated with acute uncomplicated influenza.

How to take Rapivab

  • Injection routeYour doctor will prescribe your dose and schedule. This medicine is given through a needle placed in a vein.

  • Injection routeA nurse or other health provider will give you this medicine.

  • This medicine should be given as soon as possible after flu symptoms start or after you are exposed to the flu (within the first 2 days).

What to do if you miss a dose of Rapivab

Rapivab contraindications

  • This medicine is not right for everyone. You should not receive it if you had an allergic reaction to peramivir.

  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have kidney disease.

  • Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve or if they get worse.

  • Unusual behavior

Rapivab interactions

  • Tell your doctor if you have received a live influenza vaccine in the past 2 weeks. Do not use the live influenza vaccine for at least 48 hours after you receive this medicine.
