Remeron Soltab is a brand-name drug, the generic version is Mirtazapine. Remeron Soltab is manufactured by Merck.
Remeron Soltab (mirtazapine) is a member of the tetracyclic antidepressants drug class and is commonly used for depression and major depressive disorder. Tetracyclic antidepressants contain four cyclic rings as part of their structure. They are similar to tricyclic antidepressants and act by inhibiting the reuptake of neurotransmitters serotonin and/or noradrenaline in the brain, and elevate mood. They are effective antidepressants but are used less often now due to their side effect profile.
It is important to note that you should not use Remeron Soltab if you have used an MAO inhibitor in the past 14 days, such as isocarboxazid, linezolid, methylene blue injection, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, tryptophan, St. John's wort, or diazepam. A fatal drug interaction may occur if these drugs are taken together.
Your doctor should be informed of all the medical conditions that you have. Tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease, seizures or epilepsy, bipolar disorder (manic depression), heart disease or history of heart attack, long QT syndrome (in you or a family member), or low blood pressure or dizzy spells.
Some young people have suicidal thoughts when first taking an antidepressant. Stay alert to changes in your mood or symptoms. Some common side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, strange dreams, dry mouth, constipation, increased appetite, or weight gain.
Seek medical attention right away if you have signs of an allergic reaction. These can include hives, joint pain, fever, difficulty breathing, swelling in your face or throat) or a severe skin reaction (fever, sore throat, burning eyes, skin pain, red or purple skin rash with blistering and peeling.)
This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects.
