Ryvent is a brand-name prescription drug manufactured by Carwin Pharmaceutical Associates. The generic version of Ryvent is called carbinoxamine maleate. Carbinoxamine is also available as generic in other strengths (4 mg tablet and oral solution).
Ryvent is an antihistamine used to reduce and relieve symptoms of allergic reactions, hay fever, and hives These symptoms may include rash; watery eyes; itchy eyes, nose, throat, and skin; cough; runny nose; and sneezing.
Ryvent works by blocking the histamine that your body makes during an allergic reaction. It also blocks acetylcholine and helps to dry up some body fluids to relieve symptoms such as watery eyes and runny nose.
Ryvent should not be used to treat cold symptoms in children younger than 6 years unless specifically directed by your child's pediatrician. Do not use this medicine if you have used an MAO inhibitor in the past two weeks, such as isocarboxazid, linezolid, methylene blue injection, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, or tranylcypromine.
