What is Scytera?

Scytera is a topical medication that temporarily relieves skin conditions like itching, scaling, and flaking due to skin conditions such as psoriasis or seborrheic dermatitis. This prescription medication also treats dandruff. Scytera belongs to a class of drugs called keratoplasty. This medication works by causing the skin to shed dead cells from its top layer, which slows down the growth of skin cells and decreases scaling and dryness.

Scytera is available in several drug forms such as a cream, lotion, oil, ointment, shampoo, and solution. Apply Scytera according to the directions on the medication label or as directed by your doctor. Some forms of coal tar may be applied one to four times daily. When using Scytera, avoid exposure to sunlight or artificial ultraviolet rays like sunlamps or tanning beds as your skin may be more sensitive to sunlight and sunburn may result.

It is unlikely that other drugs you take orally or inject will have an effect on this form of topically applied coal tar, Scytera. Inform your healthcare providers about all medicines you use, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, herbal products, and vitamins.
