Xyosted (testosterone enanthate) is a prescription drug that is used to treat adult men who have low or no testosterone due to certain medical conditions caused by a lack of testosterone. Testosterone is the main sex hormone in men, and is an anabolic steroid. Testosterone plays a huge role in the development of male reproductive tissues such as testes and prostate, as well as muscle and bone mass, and the growth of body hair.
If you have prostate cancer, male breast cancer, uncontrolled high blood pressure, a serious heart condition, severe liver or kidney disease, or an allergy to sesame oil, you should not use this drug. Xyosted should not be used to treat low testosterone without certain medical conditions or due to getting older. Xyosted will not enhance athletic performance.
To make sure Xyosted is right for you, tell your healthcare provider if you have or have had high blood pressure, heart problems, coronary artery disease (clogged arteries), a heart attack or stroke, sleep apnea, enlarged prostate or urination problems, high cholesterol, or triglycerides, cancer, depression, anxiety, a mood disorder, suicidal thoughts or actions, diabetes, high red blood cell (RBC) counts, or liver or kidney disease.
Common side effects of Xyosted in both men and women include breast swelling, acne, increased facial or body hair growth, male-pattern baldness, increased or decreased interest in sex, headache, anxiety, depressed mood, high blood pressure (which can increase the risk of heart attack or stroke, and increase the risk of death due to heart attack or stroke), numbness or tingly feeling, abnormal liver function tests, high red blood cell counts (hematocrit or hemoglobin), increased PSA (prostate-specific antigen) with worsening of prostate symptoms, or pain, bruising, bleeding, redness, or a hard lump where the medicine was injected. Some people may also experience allergic reactions to Xyosted.
There are other side effects that you can experience while using Xyosted. Seek medical advice from your healthcare professional about managing these side effects. Talk to your doctor about what to expect, and how to address them if they occur. You can also report side effects to the FDA.
