Somatuline Depot is a protein made by man that is similar to the hormone somatostatin. It works by decreasing the insulin and glucagon levels in the body that regulates your blood sugar, growth hormone, and chemicals that affect digestion. Somatuline Depot is also used in adults for the treatment of acromegaly, carcinoid syndrome, or pancreatic or digestive tract tumor.

What to do if you miss a dose of Somatuline Depot

Somatuline Depot contraindications

  • This medicine is not right for everyone. Do not use it if you had an allergic reaction to lanreotide, or if you are breastfeeding.

Somatuline Depot warnings

  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, or if you have kidney disease, liver disease, diabetes, gallbladder disease, heart and blood vessel problems, or thyroid problems.

  • Do not breastfeed while you are using this medicine and for 6 months after the last dose.

  • This medicine may cause the following problems: Gallstones, which may lead to swelling of the gallbladder, bile ducts, or pancreasChanges in blood sugar levelHigh blood pressure

  • This medicine may make you dizzy. Do not drive or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how this medicine affects you.

  • Talk with your doctor before using this medicine if you plan to have children. Some women who use this medicine have become infertile (unable to have children).

  • Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.

  • Some medicines can affect how lanreotide works. Tell your doctor if you are using any of the following: Bromocriptine, cyclosporine, quinidine, terfenadineBlood pressure or heart medicine (including beta-blockers)Insulin or oral diabetes medicine

Serious Side Effects

  • Unusual bleeding, bruising, or weakness

  • Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing

  • Increased thirst, hunger, or urination

  • Severe stomach pain with nausea and vomiting, yellow skin or eyes, stomach fullness, fever

  • Shaking, trembling, sweating, fast or pounding heartbeat, lightheadedness, confusion

  • Slow heartbeat, trouble breathing

Less Serious Side Effects

  • Weight loss

  • Constipation, diarrhea, gas

  • Pain, itching, or a lump under your skin where the shot is given

  • Joint or muscle pain

  • Headache, dizziness
