The 2023-2024 formula is the updated COVID-19 vaccine, which contains updated strains compared to the original vaccine. Have had myocarditis or pericarditis
Currently have a fever
Are immunocompromised
Are pregnant or breastfeeding

Common side effects of Spikevax include injection site reactions (such as redness, pain, tenderness, and swelling), fatigue, headache, muscle or joint pain, chills, nausea and vomiting, and swelling and tenderness in the armpit.
Severe side effects, which are rare, may include fainting and increased risk of myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle) and pericarditis (swelling and irritation of the membrane around the heart). These heart complications are very rare, and most commonly have occurred in males 18-24 years of age. However, be alert to chest pain, shortness of breath, or feeling like the heart is beating fast, fluttering, or pounding. If you have any of these symptoms (which generally occur in the two weeks after getting the vaccine), get emergency medical help right away.
Allergic reactions require emergency medical attention (symptoms may include hives, difficulty breathing or swallowing, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat). You will be monitored for a short time after getting your vaccine.
Patients should not receive the Spikevax vaccine if they have a history of severe allergic reactions to any ingredient in Spikevax, or a severe allergic reaction to a previous dose of a Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. If you are not sure whether Spikevax is safe for you, ask your healthcare provider for medical advice.
Yes, Spikevax is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The Spikevax and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines can be used interchangeably.
The Moderna Bivalent COVID-19 vaccine is made the same way as the Spikevax and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines but also contains an Omicron component to protect against the Omicron variant of the virus.
According to the CDC, it takes a few weeks until the body builds up an immune response against COVID-19.
