What is Spravato (84 MG Dose): Uses, Warnings & Interactions

Updated May 14, 2025  •  Published Jan 25, 2021

Spravato is a brand-name treatment for depression but is only used when other drugs and therapies don’t work, or there’s a high risk of suicide. The FDA has approved its use because esketamine, its active ingredient, rapidly improves depression symptoms in some people. Spravato is not a typical prescription drug that people can take home. Instead, its administration is supervised and monitored by a healthcare professional in a certified clinic. It not only requires a prescription but approval by the manufacturer’s safety (REMS) program.
