Topiramate ER is a generic prescription drug that belongs to the carbonic anhydrase inhibitor anticonvulsants. It is used to treat migraine headaches and different types of seizures including tonic-clonic seizures and partial-onset seizures. Topiramate ER can also treat epilepsy, Lennox Gastaut syndrome, bulimia, and alcoholism. Topiramate ER is available as extended-release capsules. Children as young as two years old may use Topiramate ER depending on the condition it is being used to treat.
Do not use Topiramate ER if you are allergic to any of its ingredients. Do not use any alcohol within six hours of taking Topiramate ER. You should avoid driving and other activities that require you to be alert while taking Topiramate ER. If you are on a ketogenic diet (a diet high in fat, low in carbohydrates) you will have to change this while taking Topiramate ER.
