Dorzolamide ophthalmic solution is used to treat high pressure inside the eye due to glaucoma (open angle-type) or other eye diseases. Lowering high pressure inside the eye helps to prevent blindness. This medication works by decreasing the amount of fluid within the eye. It belongs to a class of drugs known as carbonic anhydrase inhibitors. ‘Carbonic anhydrase inhibitors are IOP-lowering sulfonamide derivatives that inhibit the activity of CA in the ciliary processes of the eye, thus reducing aqueous humor formation and consequently decreasing IOP.
Your doctor will want to make sure Dorzolamide is safe for you, to help do this, tell your doctor if you have or have ever had a sulfa drug allergy, narrow-angle glaucoma, kidney disease, or liver disease.It has not been determined whether Dorzolamide eye drops will harm an unborn baby.
