Latanoprost is a medication that lowers pressure inside the eye. Latanoprost is used to treat eye diseases such as glaucoma. Latanoprost belongs to a class of medications called prostaglandin analogues. Latanoprost is a generic medication also sold under the trade name Xalatan by Pfizer. Latanoprost became available generically in 2011. In the treatment of glaucoma, latanoprost use is very common.

Xalatan®: Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light. Throw away any unused Xalatan® eye drops after 6 weeks.
Missed dose: If you miss a dose of this medicine, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at your usual time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time.
Xelpros„¢: Store this medicine in the refrigerator. Do not freeze.
Your doctor will tell you how much medicine to use. Do not use more than directed.
Ophthalmic routeWash your hands with soap and water before and after using this medicine.
Ophthalmic routeShake the eye drops well just before each use.
Ophthalmic routeLie down or tilt your head back. With your index finger, pull down the lower lid of your eye to form a pocket.
Ophthalmic routeTo use the eye drops: Hold the dropper close to your eye with the other hand. Drop the correct number of drops into the pocket made between your lower lid and eyeball. Gently close your eyes. Place your index finger over the inner corner of your eye for 1 minute. Do not rinse or wipe the dropper or allow it to touch anything, including your eye. Put the cap on the bottle right away. Keep the bottle upright when you are not using it.
If you wear contact lenses, remove them before using this medicine. You may insert it again after 15 minutes.

This medicine is not right for everyone. Do not use it if you had an allergic reaction to latanoprost.
Tell your doctor if you get an eye infection, have an eye injury, or have eye surgery while being treated with this medicine. You may need to get a new bottle of the eye drops to help prevent an eye infection or to keep an eye infection from getting worse.
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have other eye or vision problems, eye infection (including herpes simplex eye infection), or a history of eye inflammation (including iritis or uveitis).
Ophthalmic routeIf you hurt your eye, develop an eye infection, or need to have eye surgery, talk with your doctor right away. You may need to change your medicine or stop using it.
Your doctor will check your progress and the effects of this medicine at regular visits. Keep all appointments.
Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk with your doctor before using this medicine.
If you are also using other eye medicines together with latanoprost, use them at least 5 minutes from each other.
If you use the drops in just one eye, only the treated eye may change color. The color change may be permanent.
Tell your doctor if your eye color begins to change while using this medicine.
Make sure your doctor knows if you have liver or kidney disease before using this medicine.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk with your doctor before using this medicine.

Chest pain
Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
Blurred vision or other changes in vision
Severe eye irritation or inflammation
Seeing sparks or flashes of light
Less Serious Side Effects
Increased brown color in the colored part of the eye (iris), which may be permanent, darkening of the eyelids
Longer, thicker, and darker eyelashes
Eye discharge, tearing, or itching
Eye sensitivity to light
