Can you really get Wegovy for $25 a month?

Wegovy can be expensive, but there are ways to make it more affordable
Two prefilled medication pens: Can you really get Wegovy for $25 a month?

Key takeaways

  • Wegovy is a medication prescribed for weight loss and long-term weight maintenance. It can also be prescribed to lower the risk of heart-related death, heart attack, and stroke in adults who have heart disease and are overweight or have obesity.

  • Without insurance or discounts, the average retail price of this brand-name drug is more than $1,800 a month.

  • Previously, there was a $25 savings card, but the requirements have changed as of  January 2025.

  • Now, if you’re eligible for Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy savings card program, you can take advantage of various savings options. Your out-of-pocket cost will depend on your insurance coverage, with some people paying as little as $0 per month, while others may pay up to $650—or somewhere in between.

  • You can always use a free SingleCare card or coupon to save money on your Wegovy prescription. You can use the discount every month to pay for your refills, too.

Wegovy (semaglutide) is an injectable prescription medication for weight loss. Classified as a GLP-1 receptor agonist, Wegovy is injected once weekly by subcutaneous route (under the skin). It was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2021 for chronic weight management in adults and pediatric patients 12 years and older with obesity. It is also approved for adults who are overweight with one or more weight-related conditions, such as high blood pressure or Type 2 diabetes (high blood sugar). In March of 2024, the FDA approved an additional indication for Wegovy—to lower the risk of cardiovascular death, heart attack, and stroke in adults with heart disease and either obesity or overweight. Regardless of indication, Wegovy is typically recommended to be used along with diet and exercise.

Wegovy can be expensive without any insurance coverage or discounts, but there are various ways to save. As of 2025, the $25 savings offer is no longer available—however, the good news is that there are still affordable ways to get Wegovy, and some people (with insurance) will pay as little as $0.

How much does Wegovy cost?

The typical cash price for Wegovy is $1,838 for four 4, 0.75 ml pens, which is a month’s supply. You’ll likely pay less if you have health insurance with a prescription drug plan that covers Wegovy. There are also ways to reduce your drug copay with coupons and savings programs.

Can you get Wegovy for $25 a month?

Novo Nordisk used to advertise a savings offer where you could get Wegovy for free for one year and then pay as little as $25 per month after that. However, the details of the program have changed. There is still a Wegovy savings card through NovoCare, though, and the offer applies to any dosage of Wegovy. Here are the details.

If you have commercial insurance that provides coverage for Wegovy, you can pay as little as $0 or pay $650 for a 28-day supply (one box) of Wegovy. The amount you will pay depends on your specific insurance coverage:

  • If your out-of-pocket cost after insurance is $849 or less, you can pay as little as $0, with a maximum benefit of $225 per box of Wegovy. (Or you could pay $450 per two boxes or $675 per three boxes). For example, if your copay is $100, you will pay $0 since the maximum benefit is $225. However, if your copay is $300, the savings plan would contribute the maximum benefit of $225, and you would pay the difference of $75 per box of Wegovy.
  • If your out-of-pocket cost after insurance is more than $849 per box, you can use this offer separately from your insurance and pay $650 per box. If you use this option, though, the money you pay will not count toward your deductible.
  • If your insurance company does not cover Wegovy or if you pay out of pocket without insurance, you can pay $650 for one box of Wegovy, $1,300 for two boxes, or $1,950 for three boxes.

If you’re eligible for the savings card, the manufacturer allows you to enroll in free WeGoTogether support. WeGoTogether is personalized support to help people lose weight and keep it off. This online resource gives you free access to a health coach, a portal to track your progress, and more.

Eligibility criteria for Wegovy savings

To obtain the savings card for Wegovy, you must not be enrolled in a federal or state health care program with prescription drug coverage, including Medicaid, Medicare, Medigap, Tricare, or VA programs.

In addition, you cannot receive this benefit if a commercial insurance plan or if other health or pharmacy benefit programs can reimburse you for the entire cost of Wegovy treatment.

To receive this offer, you must provide a valid prescription for Wegovy, including the prescriber identification number. This offer is only valid in the United States and its territories and is not transferable. Also, this offer only applies to Wegovy and does not cover other forms of semaglutide, such as compounded semaglutide, which is not FDA approved. Other FDA-approved semaglutide products, Ozempic and Rybelsus, have their own savings programs.

Please note that the eligibility requirements for the Wegovy discount savings card can change at any time.

How to get Wegovy for free

You must complete a few simple steps before receiving the Wegovy savings offer from Novo Nordisk.

First, you’ll answer a few questions in an online application to ensure you meet the eligibility requirements for the discount card, such as basic personal information, previous Wegovy prescriptions, and confirming that you are not enrolled in federal or state programs.

If approved, you’ll receive a copy of the Wegovy savings card, which you can save on your phone or print out. You’ll show the discount card to your participating pharmacy to receive the discount. If you have any questions about the application, call the Wegovy Navigation Line at 833-4-WEGOVY.

Other ways to get affordable Wegovy

The SingleCare prescription discount card is another way to save money on Wegovy. You can download the SingleCare app to access the digital card or print it out to show your pharmacist and receive your discount at participating pharmacies. With a SingleCare Wegovy coupon, you can save up to $600 on four, 0.75 mL Wegovy pens (with similar prices for each dosage), which is a month’s supply. That amounts to over $7,000 savings per year.

Insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid coverage of Wegovy

“If you have commercial or private insurance, they might cover up to 100% of the total cost of the Wegovy,” says Sarah Bonza, MD, the founder of Bonza Health and hospitalist physician at Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster, Ohio.

Medicare plans aren’t likely to cover Wegovy for weight management alone. “Medicare does not cover anti-obesity medications, as weight loss is considered cosmetic by the U.S. government,” says Angela Fitch, MD, the chief medical officer at Knownwell and the President of the Obesity Medicine Association based in Needham, Massachusetts. Fitch hopes Medicare coverage of Wegovy will change, however, since drugs like Wegovy “aren’t just about losing weight but also about improving health.” If the reintroduced Treat and Reduce Obesity Act is passed, it would allow coverage under Medicare’s prescription drug benefit when used as a treatment of obesity or for weight loss management for individuals who are overweight.

On March 8, 2024, the FDA approved a new indication for use of Wegovy: to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death, heart attack, and stroke in adults with cardiovascular disease and who either have obesity or are overweight. As a result, Medicare prescription plans may provide coverage for this FDA-approved use. You can contact your specific insurance plan for the most recent coverage information.

Regarding Medicaid, states can decide whether or not they’ll cover Wegovy. While the Medicaid Drug Rebate Program requires all Medicaid programs to cover most FDA-approved drugs for medically accepted indications, Wegovy falls into a group of prescription drugs that can be excluded from Medicaid coverage. However, when used for cardiovascular risk reduction, Medicaid may provide coverage, although your state’s plan may require prior authorization. Again, it’s best to check with your specific plan for more information.

Bottom line

While the $25 Wegovy savings offer is no longer available, there is still a Wegovy Savings Program. However, the details have changed as of January 2025. Depending on your insurance provider and coverage, you may pay as little as $0 per month for Wegovy, up to a maximum of $650 per month. You can also save a significant amount of money—more than $600 per month—with a SingleCare coupon. Either way, you will realize significant savings from the price of over $1,800 without insurance. You can read the prescribing information for more information about Wegovy, including dosage, side effects, warnings, and other important safety information. Ask your healthcare provider for more information and medical advice about Wegovy, including side effects, cost, and other questions.
