Uses
  • Treats constipation. Also treats irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) with constipation in women. This medicine is a stool softener.
  • This medicine is not right for everyone. Do not use it if you had an allergic reaction to lubiprostone, or if you have stomach or bowel blockage.
Directions
  • Your doctor will tell you how much medicine to use. Do not use more than directed.
  • Swallow the capsule whole. Do not crush, break, or chew it.
  • Take this medicine with food and water. This will help lessen the chance of nausea.
  • Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light.
  • Missed dose: Take a dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then and take a regular dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.
Warnings
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have liver disease, low blood pressure, severe diarrhea, or a sudden change in bowel movements.
  • This medicine may make you feel dizzy or lightheaded. Stand or sit up slowly if you are dizzy. This is more likely to happen when you begin to use the medicine or if you become dehydrated.
  • Your doctor will check your progress and the effects of this medicine at regular visits. Keep all appointments.
  • Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.
