Arixtra is a prescription medication used to treat patients with deep vein thrombosis (DVT). A condition that causes blood to clot in the legs or lungs. This medication is used together with another anticoagulant to stop the blood clotting substance in the in the blood. This reduces the risk of heart attack, stroke, or breathing problems.

Alternate sides of your abdomen for each injection.
After you remove the needle guard, do not let the needle touch anything before you inject the medicine. This will help prevent infection.

Missed dose: Take a dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then and take a regular dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.

This medicine is not right for everyone. Do not use it if you had an allergic reaction to fondaparinux.
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have kidney disease, liver disease, any bleeding problems, high blood pressure, diabetic retinopathy, a stomach ulcer, or a history of stroke or heart infection. Tell your doctor if you recently had brain, back, or eye surgery. Tell your doctor if you have an allergy to latex.

Some medicines can affect how fondaparinux works. Tell your doctor if you are using an NSAID pain or arthritis medicine (such as aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen) or other blood thinners (such as clopidogrel, warfarin).
Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.
Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.
Serious Side Effects
Tiny red dots on the skin, especially on the lower legs
Change in how much or how often you urinate
Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
Loss of bowel or bladder control
Unexplained nosebleeds
Numbness or tingling in your legs, back pain
Unusual bleeding, bruising, or weakness
Blood in your urine or stools
