Uses
  • Treats heart rhythm problems, stomach or bowel problems, and certain types of poisoning. Also used before surgery to decrease saliva.
  • You should not receive this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to atropine, or if you have glaucoma, prostate problems, or certain problems with digestion.
Directions
  • Injection routeYour doctor will prescribe your exact dose and tell you how often it should be given. This medicine is given as a shot under your skin, into a muscle, or into a vein.
  • Injection routeA nurse or other health provider will give you this medicine.
Warnings
  • Seizures.
  • Trouble swallowing.
  • Lightheadedness or fainting.
  • Older adults may be more likely to have some of the side effects of this medicine.
  • Make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or breast feeding. Tell your doctor if you have heart disease, asthma, or other lung problems. Tell your doctor if you have any stomach problems such as GERD, or intestinal problems such as ulcerative colitis or obstruction.
Side effects
  • Upset stomach or problems with digestion.
  • Muscle weakness.
  • Pain, itching, redness, or swelling of your skin where the needle is placed.
  • Trouble swallowing.
  • Mild skin rash.
  • Seizures.
  • Lightheadedness or fainting.
  • Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
  • Fast heartbeat.
  • Dry mouth, nose, or throat.
  • Muscle weakness.
  • Blurred vision, or eyes being more sensitive to light.
  • Decreased sweating.
  • Mild skin rash.
  • Constipation, problems with urination.
  • Upset stomach or problems with digestion.
  • Pain, itching, redness, or swelling of your skin where the needle is placed.
  • Feeling restless or tired.
Avoid
  • Tell your doctor if you use anything else that makes you sleepy. Some examples are allergy medicine, narcotic pain medicine, and alcohol.
