What is Centratex?

Centratex is a brand-name prescription B-vitamin supplement with vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B9, and B12 as well as iron, vitamin C, and other minerals. Centratex is prescribed to patients with anemia (a shortage of healthy red blood cells) due to vitamin B and iron deficiencies, the most common cause of anemia. Centratex is most frequently prescribed to women who are pregnant or have heavy periods, to people who have suffered blood loss or injury, and to the elderly, who are all at risk of vitamin B or iron-deficient anemia.

Iron and vitamins B6, B9, and B12 are used by the body to produce red blood cells. All the B vitamins (called B-complex vitamins) in Centratex are needed by the body to convert proteins, fats, and carbohydrates into energy. Serious deficiencies in any of these vitamins can be health-threatening or even fatal.

Centratex also includes vitamin C, a nutrient that ensures adequate absorption of iron through the intestines. Other ingredients include zinc, magnesium, manganese, and copper.

Centratex is taken as a capsule between meals once per day.

What are the side effects of Centratex?

Common side effects of Centratex include but are not limited to nausea, diarrhea, constipation, and decreased appetite. These side effects may fade over time. Allergic reactions to Centratex are extremely rare but include hives, rashes, and itching. Most allergic reactions will be to the inactive ingredients in Centratex.
