What is Cimduo?
Cimduo is a brand-name prescription combination drug used to control the underlying viral infection that causes HIV/AIDS. Cimduo prevents HIV from making copies of itself and so reduces the amount of HIV in the body. Because HIV attacks the immune system, reducing the amount of virus in the body helps the immune system to recover.
HIV mutates and develops drug-resistant strains quickly. The standard therapy for HIV is to use combination drugs, like Cimduo, to most effectively reduce the virus load in the body. Like many HIV/AIDS drugs, Cimduo is intended to be taken with other drugs that fight the HIV infection.
Cimduo is taken as a tablet once per day with or without food. The dose prescribed may vary. Cimduo can make hepatitis B infections worse, so Cimduo is not prescribed to patients infected with hepatitis B.
What are the side effects of Cimduo?
The most common side effects of Cimduo are rash, headache, diarrhea, pain, nausea, fever, back pain, and abdominal pain. Mental and mood changes include depression and anxiety. The most serious side effects of Cimduo include bleeding, liver problems, pancreas problems, muscle problems, and a potentially lethal buildup of lactic acid in the body (lactic acidosis).
Allergic reactions are rare. Discontinue Cimduo if any allergic symptoms, such as rash, swelling, or trouble breathing, are experienced.
