Clomid

Clomiphene is an FDA-approved ovulatory stimulant that works to induce ovulation, or the release of an egg from the ovaries. This medication may be prescribed for women with infertility who wish to become pregnant. It works by blocking estrogen receptors in the pituitary gland to increase the release of gonadotropins. The gonadotropins luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) stimulate the ovaries. Other treatment methods may be recommended by a doctor in combination with Clomiphene citrate to increase the chances of pregnancy. What is Clomiphene citrate?

Clomiphene is an ovulatory stimulant that helps induce ovulation, or the release of an egg from the ovaries. It is approved to help increase the chances of pregnancy in women with infertility. It works by blocking estrogen receptors in the pituitary gland to increase gonadotropin secretion. The secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) helps trigger ovulation.

Clomiphene citrate is only approved for women with ovulatory dysfunction that are not currently pregnant, who do not have ovarian cysts or abnormal vaginal bleeding, and who have normal liver function.

This medication is typically started at a low dose of 50 mg daily for five days. If after the first course of therapy pregnancy is not successful, a second treatment course of 100 mg daily for five days can be given. Clomiphene citrate is not recommended for more than three courses of treatment.

Tell your doctor about any medical conditions you have or other medications you may be taking before starting treatment with Clomiphene citrate.
