Is there a generic of Clorpactin?

Clorpactin is an antiseptic wound wash and topical antiseptic with sodium oxychlorosene. Clorpactin is a modified Dakin's Solution. Sodium oxychlorosene topical liquid is also supplied by Shanghai Rayshine.

What is Clorpactin?

Clorpactin is a topical antiseptic and wound wash with sodium oxychlorosene, a substance similar to hypochlorous acid. It is used to treat localized infections on the skin, remove dead skin tissue due to infection or radiation, to irrigate wounds, and to prepare the skin prior to surgery to prevent wound infection.

Clorpactin is also used topically for vaginal or cervical infections and instilled through an enema for colonic and rectal infections.

Clorpactin can be instilled into the bladder through a catheter to treat urinary tract infections caused by resistant bacteria. Clorpactin is instilled into the bladder once per day until the infection resolves.

Additional uses include topical use for throat or mouth infections, eye infections caused by resistant bacteria, and chronic infections of the sinuses.

Clorpactin, like hypochlorous acid, is classified as a biocide, that is, a drug that kills living cells. It is a broad-spectrum anti-microbial that kills and dissolves bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Unlike hypochlorous acid, however, it does not harm skin cells or poison the body when used topically.

Clorpactin is only used topically. It can be instilled into the bladder, rectum, colon, sinuses, or throat, but should not be injected or swallowed. Clorpactin is used as a solution only.

What are the side effects of Clorpactin?

The most common side effects of Clorpactin include but are not limited to irritation. No allergic reactions have been reported for Clorpactin.
