Is there a generic of Diprolene?

Diprolene is a brand-name generic topical ointment with betamethasone as the active ingredient. Betamethasone is also found as the active ingredient in generic prescription topical creams and ointments manufactured by Teligent, Taro, and Teva, among others. SingleCare offers discount coupons for both Diprolene and generic betamethasone cream on the SingleCare website and app. You can redeem these coupons at most major retailers: CVS, Target, Longs Drugs, Walgreens, and more.

What is Diprolene?

Diprolene is a prescription topical ointment that relieves the itching, pain, swelling, and redness caused by allergies, eczema, or psoriasis. The active ingredient in Diprolene, betamethasone, is a corticosteroid, a type of drug which prevents the body from releasing chemicals that produce swelling.

A few drops of Diprolene are applied to the affected area and rubbed in until the ointment disappears. Diprolene should not be used with bandages, other dressings, or diapers. Do not apply to the face, groin, or armpits.

What are the side effects of Diprolene?

Most side effects of Diprolene occur on the skin where it has been applied and include burning, itching, skin dryness, lightening of the skin, blistering, and swollen hair follicles (“hair bumps”). Topical steroids can be absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream, so side effects may occur throughout the body, such as weight gain, puffiness, muscle weakness, blurred vision, thinning skin, and increased body hair. Betamethasone can also cause mood changes, such as depression, anxiety, and irritability. Allergic reactions are rare, but you should discontinue Diprolene if you notice a rash, hives, swelling, or any other sign of an allergic reaction.

This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. If you have questions about side effects, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
