What is Doxazosin?

Doxazosin is a blood pressure reducing drug for patients with high blood pressure (hypertension). Doxazosin works by relaxing blood vessels. Doxazosin is the active ingredient in the brand-name drug, Cardura, but is also widely available as a generic.

Doxazosin belongs to a family of blood pressure reducing medications called alpha blockers, which work by blocking a hormone similar to adrenaline that causes blood vessels to tighten. As blood vessels lose tension, they widen, and the pressure within them decreases.
